January In Tokyo

If there was ever a trip that felt like stepping into a dream, this was this one. Japan in January—cool, crisp, and buzzing with life—was everything I wanted and more. This wasn’t a crazy sightseeing sprint or a jam-packed itinerary full of must-dos. Instead, it was a trip about living, but in Japan.
From the start, it was a group adventure. Friends joined us along the way, making everything feel even more special. First stop? Shopping. Because obviously, a fresh Japan wardrobe was necessary. There’s something about Japanese fashion that makes you want to elevate your whole vibe. We wandered through Shibuya, Harajuku, and even the department stores, curating outfits that felt right for the trip. Think effortless layers, cozy knits, and just the right amount of city edge.
One of the highlights? TeamLab Borderless. This place is pure magic, and I’m giving it the post it deserves later, but let me just say—immersive art, endless colours, and the kind of experience that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another dimension. Every room pulled us into a different dreamscape, and I could have stayed there forever.
Food was, of course, a priority. We had an omakase dinner (which deserves its own post because wow), but another favourite night was our monjayaki dinner. If you’ve never had monjayaki, imagine okonomiyaki’s messier cousin—gooey, crispy, and flavorful. We sat around the hot griddle, cooking up our own savoury creations, laughing, and probably making a mess, but it was the best kind of cozy dinner.
In between all of this, we just existed in Japan. We met up with friends, walked through quiet backstreets, stopped for coffee in hidden cafes, and embraced the kind of slow, intentional travel that I always crave. Sightseeing happened, sure, but the best moments were the ones that felt like we were simply there—existing, breathing, living life, but in a place that felt like a dream.
And honestly? That’s my favourite way to travel.
