Cottagecore And The City

Cottagecore in the City
Living cottagecore in the city sounds like a stretch, but it’s not. You don’t need a field of wildflowers or a cottage with chickens to get the vibe. You can fake it just fine from an apartment with Wi-Fi and a corner store down the street.
Make your home cozy
Thrift some vintage furniture, dig up floral prints, and use natural fabrics like linen or cotton. Don’t overthink it. The charm is in the fact that nothing really matches, but it still feels put together.
Add plants
Plants do the heavy lifting here. Herbs on the counter, flowers on a nightstand, a few terracotta pots in the window. If you want to go harder, hang them from the ceiling until your place feels like a greenhouse. Only if you can keep a plant alive, please don’t waste your money on something you’re going to need to throw out in a month.
Use whatever outdoor space you have
Balcony, rooftop, fire escape or window sill all count. Add a chair, some pots, maybe string lights if you’re feeling ambitious. It doesn’t need to be perfect. Just somewhere you’d actually want to sit with coffee or a book.
Learn a craft
Knit, crochet, sew, paint, learn an instrument or candlemaking perhaps? Something that doesn’t involve electronics and something where you have to use your hands and focus. Half the fun is in the process, and the other half is showing off your uneven scarf like it’s runway-ready.
Dress the part
Cottagecore clothes are easy. Thrifted floral dresses or skirts in soft colours, lacy tops and a straw hat if you’re feeling dramatic. A basket bag makes groceries feel like a Jane Austen errand.
Cook from scratch
Bake bread, make soup, or just chop vegetables slowly while pretending you’re on a farm. Burned cookies still count.
Go to farmers’ markets
Pick up produce, honey, or flowers and chat with the vendors. It feels quaint, even if you’re surrounded by apartment towers.
Set up a reading corner
One chair, one blanket, one stack of books. You don’t need a Pinterest mood board. Just somewhere you’ll actually sit down and read instead of scrolling.
Host something low-key
Invite a friend over for tea or pack a basket for the park. Toss in some baked goods, a bottle of wine, and call it cottagecore. Bonus points if you spill something on the blanket.
Slow down
That’s the core of it. Write in a journal, paint badly, take long walks, or just make dinner without rushing. The whole point is doing normal things slower and making them feel special.
