January In Tokyo

January In Tokyo

Japan in January

This trip wasn’t about checking off sights or rushing through a list. It was about living life, only in Japan… We started with shopping because a new wardrobe felt necessary. Between thrift shops in Shibuya, Harajuku, and the big department stores, we found layers and sweaters to carry us through the trip. Japan does cozy sweaters better than anywhere.

A highlight of the trip was TeamLab Borderless. It deserves its own post, but for now, I’ll just say it was an experience that pulled us into another world. Every room was different, and I could have stayed for hours. Food played a big part, too. We had an omakase dinner that I’ll write about later, but another favourite was a small monjayaki spot. It’s like a messier version of okonomiyaki. We cooked at the table, and as always, I scalded the hell out of my mouth, but it was worth it.

For the rest of the time, we kept things simple. Meeting friends, walking quiet backstreets, stopping for coffee, and letting the days unfold. There were a few sightseeing stops, but the best parts were just living life there. That’s how I like to do Tokyo.
