Reducing Waste – Candle Making

Reducing Waste – Candle Making

I decided to pick up a new hobby recently – candle-making.  After having one of those, with respect, “I could do that” moments while watching a TikTok video (naturally). I bought the supplies on Amazon and finally found a use for all the old vessels I’ve been hoarding. I can now refill my own candles and reuse the jars I already have. I’ve been working really hard to consume less and reuse what I already have. This prevents me from spending a bunch of money and recycling tons of waste. I’m pretty sensitive to scents; this lets me get creative with scents and, once I get dyes, the colour. Already played around a bit with dried flowers, so the next thing is some little gems and maybe glitter. I find the whole thing so relaxing, and I need that right now.

Making Candles – How To

I clean everything up and get the wax in the melting pot. Once it starts melting, I make sure to stir every once in a while, and while the wax is melting, I prepare my wicks. I’ve found that using two of the wicks linked here is really nice together, but it doesn’t burn as well when it’s just one. I haven’t tried cotton wicks yet. I just love the look and slight sound of the wood. Feel so fancy. I’m having a bit of trouble mixing scents so far. A lot of them are too strong or smell like a cleaner.

Once the wax is melted, I carefully pour it into my chosen glass. Make sure the wick stays in the center. I leave them to dry by the window, and when they are just about ready, I will add my dried lavender, roses, baby’s breath, etc. I then trim the wick, and they are ready to go!

I’ll link all the supplies I got from Amazon below.
